This light fixture looks great when it’s up but it’ll take two of you to mount it – at 4′ long it’s virtually impossible to do alone. The installation was easy enough although when the unit arrives it’s packaged in such a way as to be confusing as to what goes where and you’re not babied with inconsequential things like an instruction sheet. So take a few moments to put it together while it’s on the ground so you know how it will go together once it’s up. The diffuser on mine was slightly cracked where it attaches to the light and of course sod’s law meant I didn’t notice that until the light was up – damage I’m sure caused by the inadequate packing that this light is sent in from the manufacturer (nothing to do with Amazon’s packing as Amazon sends it in the OEM box), so rather than take it down and send the whole lot back I gaffer taped it up… which is a shame for a light that other wise looks perfect.

Recommended – but take the time to check it all out before starting to mount it!

I couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase. This fixture was easy to install (you will need someone to help hold it) and relatively inexpensive. I bought two T8 4 foot bulbs at Lowes for .00 and this fixture really lights up the area. T8 is the newer energy efficient light fixture, so it will save you money as well.

I can’t really rate the light fixture on how it works because I never got it installed. I ordered this light, and was anxious to get it installed in my garage. But as soon as it arrived it looked damaged due to in adequate packaging. And, it was… A cracked plastic lens/cover. It was real easy sending it back to Amazon and getting it replaced. However, the replacement had a bent and dented sheet metal housing. I didn’t bother with another replacement… I just got a refund. I’m a mechanical engineer and have some experience with product packaging, and I don’t think Lithonia intended this product to be shipped in the mail as Amazon does… It’s simply not robust enough.

This is not a fancey homowner fixture. It is a basic industrial light source. They are much better built (thicker metal) than the cheaper made in Ch*** junk of similar design. Even though the listing states the unit comes with a T-12 magnetic ballast, the 4 I bought (and 3 a friend bought) came with combination T-12 & T-8 electronic ballasts, makeing them an exceptional deal.

This is a nice addition to the De Walt 18 volt cordless lineup. I have used the gooseneck light for years. Since I have a plethora of 18 volt batteries from other tools in the series, it makes sense for me to use this for lighting as well.

The gooseneck does a better job for task specific lighting like under a sink or peering between studs. I use this one to provide overall lighting where the power is completely out in a room or space, and it isn’t worth bringing in power cords from elsewhere or setting up a generator. This augments my gooseneck nicely.

I have used this light for three weeks doing rewiring. Do not purchase it and use it as your ONLY light source in a totally dark location. The incandescent models will fade and dim when the battery voltage drops. This fluorescent will stop suddenly with no warning when the voltage goes below what the electronics need to drive the lamp. For safety’s sake, use it to augment other lighting.

I bought this thinking it would just be good for lighting a room or area, but it’s great for lighting under the hood of the car or working under the kitchen sink. It’s brighter than I expected. It stands up on the battery as a base or hangs on the hook. So far, I like everything about it. One thing to remember, it doesn’t fade like an incandescent light, but goes off completely when the battery runs out.
