I am a painter of the ‘visual art’ variety. I use these bulbs in my artist lamps and they are wonderful. Gone are the days of painting at night then discovering in the light of day that my colors are all wrong! Also they are great for lighting my paintings for photographing them. These bulbs are really pretty tough…I knocked a lamp over and the bulb did not break,whew!

This light is beautiful! Reading under its light is an amazing experience. My text is clear, soft and very easy on the eyes. Its beautiful pure white light is made clear when you place it next to other so called white and full spectrum lights. Next to this they all have a yellow tone to one extent or another. It took me 10 expensive light purchases before I found this. Save your money and buy this one first then you can compare it to others and be ready to be shocked.

I like this tone so much that I have removed the long florescent tubes in my kitchen and changed the base to accept standard light bulbs so I can use this instead. Over time I will replace every light in my house with this exact light. At night if you lay under the light and close your eyes, you can almost trick your mind into thinking its soft sunlight… Simply wonderful for those that live in 25C temps every day.

(Update April 2nd 2009): Sorry. One of the bulbs is already gone. Thought this would last much longer than 3 months. I have to check into the hassle of replacing under warranty. It was used for about 4-5 hrs per day for 3 months.

After having used these bulbs on several photographic applications, I have one word for them…FABULOUS!

I have photographed real estate interiors, pets at a local animal shelter, and now food for a Pittsburgh area restaurant. The ALZO 45 watt has performed exactly “as advertised”.

The 5500K provides daylight color light that can be mixed with fill-flash and natural daylight, and one white balance setting does the job. Regarding white balance; you will have to experiment with the WB to find the right setting for your camera. Don’t use the auto if you want the best results. On my Nikon D-40, I use the “cloudy +3″ white balance for accurate color of my subject.

The brightness of these bulbs, is as advertised, approximately equivalent to a 150 watt incandescent. I use two bulbs with reflectors and they are great for rooms up to about 20′, but I may consider a pair of the higher watt ALZOs for larger rooms.

A naturally balanced light could leave you feeling as if you have been spending more time outdoors. After replacing a few light bulbs in lamps surrounding my desk, suddenly I felt more in the mood to write and my creativity started to flow better in general. Could replacing a 100W light bulb truly have such an effect?

To explore this further I read this on the back of the light:

I’m happy I didn’t read that before I experienced the effects because now I realize they are in fact wildly correct. This light will:

Mimic natural light

Enhance reading

Promote Well-Being

Now that I think of it, when I created most of my recipes, I was in a kitchen with

special fluorescent light bulbs that mimicked natural sunlight.

If you want to feel happy all the time indoors, could it be as simple as replacing all the light bulbs?

I’m willing to give this a try and if you have SAD or problems with depression, this could be a relatively painless and inexpensive solution.

Some of the lights are more expensive than others, but five dollars for an improved mood seemed fairly tame. The Neodymium color on the lights also makes the lighting look less yellow and is a rare earth element used in space age technology.

These light bulbs are packed especially well in their boxes so they don’t move around and break, which gives me the confidence to order quite a few more. With an average life of 5,000 hours, I imagine after your initial investment, you can save a lot of money over time.

After ordering, give these three days and then see how you feel.

I purchased this natural-light lightbulb to bring the sunlight indoors and it does just that. I use it to light my room to aid with my studies (I found I’m not straining as hard to read my materials now, so mission accomplished). There is one downside, though. It’s heat output. In the winter I get pretty chilly in my room while studying or working on my computer. I have the bulb in my desk lamp and it puts off enough heat to keep me warm without a space heater (I can’t even touch the lamp unit once it’s been on for two minutes or more). It’s ok in the winter, but I’m gonna have to change the bulb out when summer rolls around again or I’ll melt.

These bulbs give off a nice, relaxing light that is easy on the eyes. Some things to keep in mind with these bulbs:

Chromalux bulbs are really a normal light bulb that has glass that absorbs certain colors to create a balanced, low glare, high contrast light. Great for reading. But since it is absorbing some of the light, they are not as bright. About 2/3 the light of a stamdard bulb of the same wattage. So a 100 watt Chromalux is about as bright as a 60 watt bulb. A 60 watt Chromalux is quite dim, like a 40 watt bulb, not really bright enough to light up a 10×10 room properly.

Also, the absorbed light is given off as heat. Therefore, they do get noticably hotter than standard bulbs. Best to have a ceramic (not plastic) base, and nothing near the bulb that can burn or melt.

Still, a great bulb anyplace you are going to be doing a lot of reading or detail work.

For general lighting, especially for lights you leave on a lot, I would recommend full-spectrum compact fluorescents. Look for one with a color temperature in the general area of 5000-6000K, and a CRI (color rendition index) of >80. You get a lot of light with very little electricity, and the quality of light is quite good.

I have been using these bulbs for about 10 years. The full spectrum light is great for painting, and reading. I also believe it improves my mood, during the winter bahs.
