I bought 3 of the warm white models to replace the energy-sucking halogen bulbs we had in our hanging lights over the kitchen counter.

I’m pretty happy with these SMD LEDs. They’re not quite as bright as I would ideally like, but compared to the other LED GU10 offerings, I think these are the best and brightest.

The light is very evenly spread-out.. which I think is good. The other 1 watt/2 watt LED bulbs that I tried from the local home depot type store had very concentrated light patterns — almost like a hanging flashlight.

Regarding “warm white” … well, I wouldn’t call it “warm”. The light still has too much of that cold harshness of LEDs — but it is bearable. Especially considering that my 3 lights now take ~6 watts versus the old ~175 watts of the halogens.

Considering the current low-energy options for GU10, I think these are the best and most reasonably priced.

I was really disappointed that LED technology hasn’t come a bit further than this. This bulb was totally unusable.

I have been searching for good warm white LED lights for months and finally found this good one.

If you are looking for warm white LED, I’d strongly recommend this one.

Only cons I see so far is, while the description on this page and the invoice says 2.5W, the package box says 1.5W. I’m not sure which to believe.

It may not as bright as you may need but it’s just 1.5W (or 2.5W). You can add more as much as the space allows. Way better than halogen ones!

POSITIVES:

The Warm White version of this bulb is the first viable energy efficient replacement I have found for a 50 watt Halogen GU10 spot light. It is roughly the same brightness and color, lasts 5 years instead of 1, hardly produces any heat (halogens run HOT), and uses uses only about 5 watts of electricity. The lifespan alone should pay for the bulb over time and they save 90% of the electricity cost of running halogens. I’ve had one bulb for about 2 months so far and another for about a week, so I can’t judge their longevity.

Another reviewer complained that the vendor mis-represents the color, but to me, the White looks white and the Warm White looks golden (halogen) yellow. Exactly what I would expect and reasonably matching the photos.

CAVEATS:

Make sure to test your bulbs when they arrive! I’ve ordered a total of 7 bulbs from LED Wholesalers over the past 2 months. 2 of them were dead on arrival (one completely dead, the other emitted only a feeble glow). You can’t do exchanges, but the return process is very easy (I opted for free UPS pickup).

Beware the shipping! As of Feb 7, 2010, shipping is .17 if you don’t qualify for Free Super-Saver Shipping. Instead of clicking Buy With One Click, buy another item at the same time (or buy two or more of these bulbs) and choose Free Super-Saver Shipping at checkout.

COMPARISON:

I’ve tried a couple of other LED GU10s, but Brightest GU10 SMD SMT LED Wide Angle Light Bulb, warm white isn’t even as bright as a 20W Halogen GU10. GU10 5050 SMD LED Wide Angle led replacement for halogen, White 1232WH is fairly bright, but so wide-angle (almost 90 degrees) that it’s hard to compare against even the widest-angle halogen GU10s and it produces a somewhat sickly green color.

So according to the photos for this product, the warm white bulb projects a true white light, while the white bulb shows a yellow-ish hue. This misrepresentation of color temperature is my continued issue with this vendor.
